When did the Stark Blessing Box Initiative begin?
Are there any boxes more often in need of replenishment?
No single box’s need is greater than another; we welcome donations for all of our boxes.
The first and last week of the month are consistently busier than mid-month.
I only have a few items to contribute presently. Is it even worth it?
Yes! Every single item donated has value to the person who takes it. Just a few items can be the difference between a family eating a meal that day, or going hungry because other bills were due and there was nothing left over to purchase groceries.
How do I drop off my donations?
If you have just a few items to contribute to a box, you may place items directly into any box at your convenience.
If you have an entire box (or more) of donations to share with SBBI, we encourage you to make an appointment to drop off items to us and we will make sure they are distributed.
I have a very large quantity of an item or items. Will you accept bulk quantity donations?
Yes, we are happy to accept items that come in bulk. If you have bulk items, we strongly encourage you to schedule a drop-off with Mai.
Any bulk items we receive we prefer to break down into smaller portions as our goal is to get families through a short period of time (generally a few days). Smaller individual quantities allow us to serve more households with their interim needs.
What kinds of food can I put in a Blessing Box?
Canned Items
Preferably with pull tops.
- Fruit
- Soup
- Ravioli/pasta of any kind
- Meat (tuna, salmon, chicken, dried beef, etc)
- Pasta sauce
- Sloppy joe sauce
Dry Goods
- Cereal
- Side dishes
- Seasonings and seasoning mixes
- Hamburger or tuna helper
- Condiments – any and all
Can I contribute items besides food in a Blessing Box?
Household goods
- Cleaning supplies
- Toilet paper
- Laundry pods
- Trash bags
- Goods similar in purpose
Personal Hygiene
- Deodorant
- Toothbrushes and toothpaste
- Body wash and bar soap
- Feminine hygiene products
- Hand soap
- Lotion
Baby Items
- Wipes
- Baby wash
- Baby lotion
Portioning Needs
Any and all sizes of bags: snack, sandwich, quart or gallon.
In the event we are given bulk quantities of an item, we prefer to break it into smaller quantities in order to serve more families as they have need; having a variety of bags allows us to do this.
What are the future goals for Stark Blessing Box Initiative?
We would love to grow and expand through community relationships and sponsorships.
More strategically, we would like to see our boxes more equally dispersed throughout Canton as the number of placed boxes continues to grow.
Longer term, we would like our boxes to be a blessing throughout all of Northeast Ohio.
