Hi! My name is Laura and I have always had a passion for baking and helping others. In my neighborhood we have a yard sale every year and I’ve done a bake sale for it the last couple years. This year, 2020, has been so crazy and I just felt like I needed to give something back to people and help them out. One thing that makes me feel really sad is to know that some people don’t have enough food to eat.
I decided to do a bake sale this year and donate some of my earnings to the Stark Blessing Box Initiative! The blessing box initiative is a charity that helps collect food and they put the food in different blessing boxes all around Stark County. When I heard about this I knew I had to help! So I set up the bake sale and I passed out flyers and told everybody about the blessing box. Lots of people loved it! One person even said they would tell their own pastor about it. That made me feel great! We raised a total of $68.25! All of that money came from giving 25% of my bake sale money and kind people who donated just to the box! I was so shocked about how much I had made for the blessing box and was so excited to give it to Mai!
But one thing I knew for sure was that I was not done yet! I want to do more for the blessing box! I was texting my friend one day about the bake sale and he told me about a Youth In Action Grant! I was so excited to hear about that and am working on my application! I am really excited and hope to continue to find other ways to support the Blessing Box!
